AEW Winter Is Coming Features A Blockbuster Main Event

Announced on yesterday's episode of Dynamite, AEW are saddling up for an Earth-shaking main event on an upcoming special episode. At the second installment of Winter Is Coming, on December 15 (16th of December in Australia), newly crowned AEW World Champion Hangman Adam Page will put the belt on the line against fiery number one contender, the American Dragon, Bryan Danielson.

Hangman's story has been a beautiful arc to watch since the inception of All Elite Wrestling. He vowed to become the first AEW Champion, and although he was in the first title match, he ultimately lost to the legendary Chris Jericho. This sent him on a downward spiral, where he fell out with his buddies in The Elite, developed a drinking problem and lost all confidence in himself. After taking a sabbatical, he returned as the Joker in the Casino Ladder Match, and went on to topple Kenny Omega for the gold a few weeks ago at Full Gear.

Bryan Danielson's road to the top has involved much fewer setbacks. The artist formerly known as Daniel Bryan in WWE went from main eventing WrestleMania 37 this year to making his AEW debut at All Out to much fanfare. Then, in New York City, at Dynamite Grand Slam, Danielson had his debut match against then-AEW Champion Kenny Omega. They wrestled to a 30 minute draw in one of the best matches in AEW's relatively short history. Besides that one stumble, the American Dragon has been perfect so far in AEW, displaying a far more vicious side of himself, promising and delivering on his promise to kick some f**king heads in.

Winter Is Coming is a special episode of Dynamite rather than a PPV, so it can be viewed on TNT in the US and FITE TV internationally. Last year's episode had a major title match as well, as Kenny Omega defeated Jon Moxley to win the AEW Championship, turning heel and aligning with Don Callis in the process. It also featured the shocking surprise debut of The Icon, Sting.

Thoughts: Love this match, surprised it's happening so soon. Thought it would go down at AEW Revolution. That suggests they have something bigger planned for Hangman and/or Bryan down the road. Which leads to the quite possible rumours and speculation- could Winter Is Coming become Windham Is Coming? The former Bray Wyatt has been suspiciously quiet since his WWE non-compete expired...
